CITRUS HEIGHTS, CA (MPG) - Representative Ami Bera, M.D. (CA-06) has secured funding for two projects based in Citrus Heights. The Sayonara Housing Development Project Phase 1 will receive $1.05 million in Community Project Funding, and $1.6 million was secured for Intelligent Transportation System Enhancements.

The Sayonara Housing Development Project Phase 1 is in partnership with Habitat for Humanity of Greater Sacramento and will help to develop 26 housing units in the 7800 block of Sayonara Drive. Congressman Bera, Habitat Humanity representatives, and City officials visited the site last fall to discuss potential opportunities if funding was secured.

The Intelligent Transportation System Enhancements will facilitate improvements to the City’s current traffic systems. The $1.6 million provides funding to install approximately 1.3 miles of a fiber optic communication system in Citrus Heights, upgrade aging traffic signal cabinets and required equipment at 14 intersections and install CCTV traffic operations cameras. These enhancements will improve traffic system reliability and road safety for everyone living in and visiting Citrus Heights.

“This bipartisan funding package is another example of making government work for the people,” said Congressman Ami Bera. “I am pleased to have secured funding for these vital projects that will have a profound impact in Citrus Heights by modernizing transportation infrastructure and increasing access to affordable housing. I look forward to continuing to work with community stakeholders to implement these investments in a timely and efficient manner.”

“Our City extends a resounding thank you to Congressman Bera for seeing the potential in these Citrus Heights projects and helping ensure that we can improve our community with the needed funding,” says Mayor Bret Daniels. “These funds advance our city’s goals of improving infrastructure and providing housing opportunities for our community. I’m eager to see how these funds will benefit our city.”
