CITRUS HEIGHTS, CA (MPG) - Earth Day is held annually on April 22 and celebrates the Earth and all that we can do to help protect our planet. Events are held throughout the country during April to celebrate and help the environment.

This year, City of Citrus Heights officials invite residents to help care for our Earth at two volunteer outings.

“Our community has a strong desire to give back to their city. By chipping-in and volunteering, residents not only help beautify the city but also connect with neighbors and build relationships with City officials and community partners,” says Marisa Brown, Citrus Heights Communications Officer.

The first event is Chip-In Day: Creek Clean-Up from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 20 at the Stock Ranch Nature Preserve/Arcade Creek at 7000 Auburn Blvd. Everyone will gather behind Costco, also at 7000 Auburn Blvd. Volunteers must wear appropriate footwear and bring gloves and a water bottle. Bags and some grabbers will be provided. Volunteers of all ages are invited.

Volunteers will help provide drought-friendly solutions at the Community Center by spreading 30 yards of bark, filling sandbags and planting three crepe myrtle trees. Please wear appropriate shoes, bring gloves and a water bottle. Volunteers of all ages are welcome at this event, as well.

Volunteers will also assist in revitalizing the Citrus Heights Community Center and adding compost to the soil, which is known to improve plant growth and health.

Volunteers will be fed a pizza lunch on April 22 in thanks for chipping in. You can sign up for these events via the Citrus Heights Volunteer Hub on the city’s website at https://www.citrusheightsvolunteers.net/agency/detail/?agency_id=156411.
