CITRUS HEIGHTS, CA (MPG) - The Sunrise Recreation and Park District (SRPD) kicked off the holiday season on November 2 with an Arts and Crafts Fair at Rusch Park Community Center.

The free event featured hourly raffle drawings, food and drinks, and over 50 vendors from around Northern California. The local artisans displayed their unique and hand-crafted items including clothes, jewelry, accessories, holiday decorations, and home décor.

Shoppers browsed the booths in search of the perfect gift items for themselves or their loved ones. The festive atmosphere was enhanced by sparkling holiday decorations, a Polar Express train ride around Rusch Park, carols performed by the Sunrise Community Church Choir, and a visit from Santa and his elves.

Jacqueline Coker, customer service representative for SRPD, organizes the Arts and Crafts Fair. She said the community has really embraced the event — now in its sixth year — and she sees many of the same vendors applying for space each year. “It’s getting better each year,” said Coker.

Proceeds from the raffle ticket sales benefit the Citrus Heights Community Marching Band’s Gene Ahner Scholarship Program — named in tribute of Eugene Ahner, the first district administrator of SRPD. The scholarship fund provides financial assistance to help eligible families participate in District programs and activities they couldn’t otherwise afford.
