Railroad Museum & Foundation to Honor Military Veterans with Complimentary Excursion Train Rides & Museum Admission on Veterans Day

SACRAMENTO, CA (MPG) – To honor their service and celebrate the patriotic holiday in a safe and socially distanced way, California State Parks and the California State Railroad Museum & Foundation are proud to offer veterans and active military personnel with complimentary diesel train rides and complimentary Museum admission on Wednesday, November 11, 2020. With patriotic music playing aboard the trains, veteran and active military personnel are encouraged to wear their uniforms with pride while enjoying an excursion train ride offered at 11:30 a.m., 1 p.m. & 2:30 p.m. on Veterans Day.

In compliance with all state, city and county guidelines, enhanced cleaning and safety protocols are in place inside the Railroad Museum and aboard the excursion trains. Face masks are required for all staff and train ride visitors over the age of two. Train rides will operate at 25 percent capacity until restrictions are lifted. To accommodate social distancing, the seating of family groups is six feet apart from others. In addition to a deep clean each morning, train cars will be cleaned in between each train ride with special attention focused on high-touch points such as grab irons and handrails. Based on availability, train ride experiences are available in open-air gondolas with café style chairs or in comfortable and cushioned enclosed coach cars.

Appealing to all ages, excursion train ride guests delight in the sights, smells and sounds of a historic and authentic, working locomotive as it rolls along the levees of the Sacramento River for a six-mile, 45-minute roundtrip excursion. On Veterans Day, all train ride tickets need to be purchased in-person starting as early as 10 a.m. (based on availability) at the Central Pacific Passenger Station ticket office (Front & J Streets) in Old Sacramento State Historic Park.

To receive complimentary admission to the Railroad Museum on this celebratory day, a valid military ID or a California driver’s license identifying the individual as a veteran must be shown to museum staff. Regular Railroad Museum admission is $12 for adults, $6 for youths, and children ages five and under are free.  For train ride visitors accompanying veterans, tickets are sold in groups of four and priced according to the number of passengers in each group ($15 for one, $30 for two, $38 for three and $46 for four). Children ages five and under are free but must sit on an adult’s lap or in the space allocated to the group. More information is available at 916-323-9280 or www.californiarailroad.museum.
