CITRUS HEIGHTS, CA (MPG) - Did you know that commercial businesses in California are required to implement an organic waste recycling program in addition to existing recycling programs? This recycling is mandated by the State under laws AB 1826 and SB 1383.

The organic waste program includes both food and landscaping wastes generated by each business. Any commercial business that generates four or more cubic yards of commercial solid waste is required to recycle organic waste.

The City of Citrus Heights is planning to work with the County of Sacramento Environmental Management Department (EMD) to conduct organic waste education and inspections. The intent is to include recycling and organics recycling education and inspections at businesses in Citrus Heights that are already routinely inspected by Sacramento County EMD.

This education and inspection partnership with County of Sacramento EMD is designed to lessen the impact to Citrus Heights businesses by saving both money and time. Citrus Heights businesses that currently are subject to EMD inspections can expect:

No additional fees for organic waste and recycling inspections; Inspections for recycling and organics recycling that will take place during routine EMD visits.
