Construction begins on new Birdcage Chuze Fitness

CITRUS HEIGHTS, CA (MPG) - Interior construction on a new Birdcage Chuze Fitness center adjacent to Old Navy in the Marketplace at Birdcage has begun in Citrus Heights. A substantial amount of interior steel framing is now up inside the long-vacant former Sports Authority building which closed in July 2016. Contractors also were seen busily removing concrete flooring last week.
The San Diego-based gym is also now hiring general manager and lead and shift supervisor positions for its new Citrus Heights facility. Additional positions for group fitness instructors are being advertised on web personnel recruiting sites and on the company’s web page.
Sunrise Marketplace Executive Director Kathilynn Carpenter said she has been following the progress of construction and referred questions concerning the likely completion date to the Citrus Heights city planning department for more information.
According to documents filed with the city planning department, the project property owner is the Gerrity Group, with offices in Solano Beach, Calif.
Gerrity Group owns and operates retail properties in the western United States, including the 325,279 square foot Marketplace at Birdcage, at 6111 Sunrise Boulevard in Citrus Heights.
Walmart Neighborhood Market, Old Navy, Best Buy, Michaels, Barnes & Noble with Lowe’s and Target are major retail anchors in the Marketplace at Birdcage.
The project’s general contractor is Gray Engineering Architecture Construction, headquartered in Lexington, Kentucky and Galloway & Company, of Geenwood Village, Colorado is the architect.
Chuze Fitness has over 30 locations throughout California, Arizona, Colorado, and New Mexico, according to the company’s website. In addition to the Citrus Heights gym which is now under construction, a second Northern California location is scheduled to open at 6061 Florin Road in Sacramento this summer, according to the company website
Amenities offered at many of its California gyms vary by location. Gym locations typically include features such as Hydro Massage chairs, indoor cinema areas with daily movie showings, tanning beds, indoor turf areas, as well as pools and hot tubs. Advertised individual memberships start at $9.99 under a basic plan or can be customized to include classes and team training.
A marketing representative for Chuze Fitness from their San Diego office, did not respond to the Messenger’s request for comment.
