CITRUS HEIGHTS, CA (MPG) - At the meeting on August 11, City Council gave direction to the City Manager to execute a non-binding Letter of Intent where the City of Citrus Heights would sponsor an application for a Community Care Expansion Program (CCEP) acquisition grant to permanently dedicate Auburn Oaks Senior Apartments as low-income senior housing. Colorado-based nonprofit The Life Foundation is in contract to buy the apartments at 7501 Sunrise Blvd, a property with a history of serving as assisted living and lower-cost senior housing. The nonprofit approached the City of Citrus Heights about collaborating to ensure the property remains in service to the local senior population. 

According to the non-binding Letter of Intent terms, City staff would collaborate with Life Foundation to get grant funding for senior housing. In turn, the Life Foundation would own and operate the senior housing project and perform ongoing grant administration. The Life Foundation would also provide community health education programs for youth and families in Citrus Heights. The City would have approval rights over future changes in management companies operating the property. The terms commit staff time for grant procurement and do not commit any city funds. The Life Foundation acquisition and the opportunity to permanently dedicate the site for low-income senior housing is contingent upon the CCEP grant approval. A Memorandum of Understanding to solidify the terms of the non-binding Letter of Intent will be presented for consideration in an open session at an upcoming City Council meeting.
