Capitol Pops Concert Celebrates 25th Year Anniversaries
CITRUS HEIGHTS, CA (MPG) - Under the canopy of a bright blue fall sky, members of the Capitol Pops Concert Band, under the direction of Susan Hamre, dressed in their crisp, black and white dress uniforms, and performed a free concert, celebrating their own 25 years of playing music as they wished a joyous “Happy Birthday” to the city of Citrus Heights, celebrating its own 25 years of cityhood.
Their October 22 concert program included selections by composer John Williams, big-band swing of clarinetist Benny Goodman and a suite of tunes from Leonard Bernstein’s popular Broadway play, “West Side Story”.
The fountain and plaza around City Hall were displayed with bright orange, green, yellow, and light blue balloons as the city, U.S. and California state flags snapped in a mild breeze.
Many attending paused to take a photo beside a large “CH 25” logo next to the fountain as they kept cool. A local muralist kept busy adding finishing touches to a citrus-themed commemorative work to honor the special anniversary celebration.
Representatives of the Citrus Heights Chamber of Commerce and the Rotary Club also helped serve refreshments.
The event program included remarks from past and present city council members all of whom took time to recognize those who played an important part towards placing the incorporation of the city on the ballot and those now guiding the city into the future.
A crowd of over 150 joined in singing “Happy Birthday” to the city which they call home. The event concluded with a cake-cutting ceremony which was served to those attending by City Manager Ashley Feeney and Meghan Huber, City Economic Development and Communications Manager.
