CITRUS HEIGHTS, CA (MPG) - A cold cup of Leatherby’s ice cream offered a great way to beat the 100-degree evening heat at City Scoop Summer Series, an informal city block party, last Wednesday evening in the parking lot of Sylvan Community Center at 7521 Community Drive.

Leslie A. Ray, general manager of Citrus Heights Leatherby’s Family Creamery was all smiles as she busily handed out individual serving cups to those who stopped by the free public event.

“City Scoop events have provided residents an important opportunity to connect and learn about ways in which they can engage and chip-in to help improve the quality of life in their city,” said Marisa Brown, the city’s communications officer. A previous event was held July 19th in the Greenback Greenspace between Park Oaks Drive and Oakside Drive.

Brown and Meghan Huber, the city’s economic development and engagement manager, each wearing pink smocks, staffed a city booth where they shared calendars, stickers and materials about upcoming city events including the annual “Sunday Funday” in historic Rusch Park.

Individual officers of the Citrus Heights Police Department and members of city government mingled with attendees answering their questions, while enjoying a refreshing cup of ice cream.

There was also an opportunity to get a close-up look at the city’s block party trailer, now available for rent, see what’s planned for the upcoming Old Auburn Road Street Improvement project, and consider volunteer opportunities with the Citrus Heights Police Activities League (PAL).

The city hosts its third, and final “City Scoop” neighborhood social event on September 20th at Westwood Park on 8100 Butternut Drive from 6:30 to 8 pm.
