Cogir
of Stock Ranch follows three pillars. "Our team identity is based on three
pillars: one, human focus; two, creativity; three, excellence,” said Cogir
community relations director. Dale Masters. “Through every action, we think
about and aim to serve a human being with a sense of empathy that makes us
unique."
CITRUS HEIGHTS, CA (MPG) - Even if most of us can’t go home again, as novelist Thomas Wolfe made famous in 1900, the next home we find can provide as many, if not more, positive memories.
Just ask the Cogir of Stock Ranch Senior Living staff in Citrus Heights.
“This is their home,” community relations director Dale Masters told the Citrus Heights Messenger this week. “We want to make this chapter of their life just happy and fulfilling.”
Cogir of Stock Ranch is at 7418 Stock Ranch Road. More than 60 Cogir Senior Living communities are throughout the United States and corporate headquarters is located a few miles away off Douglas Boulevard in Roseville.
The senior living staff’s success in creating a welcoming home currently for 101 seniors ages 67 to 102 was recently nationally recognized.

Jack Derby, a World War II Army veteran, visits with Cogir community relations director Dale Masters at the wall honoring residents who are veterans. Derby has been a Cogir resident for seven years.
The independent and assisted-living Cogir of Stock Ranch on Feb. 6 received a Best of Senior Living 2024 AllStar Award from A Place for Mom, an organization that helps families find senior living communities for loved ones.
Award winners represent the top 1 to 2 percent of almost 45,000 senior care providers nationwide providing exemplary care and support to seniors, based on reviews from residents and families, according to A Place for Mom.
“It’s exciting to be able to receive the award and to be acknowledged for doing the best we can for our residents and their families,” said Cogir of Stock Ranch executive director Ricky David, Jr. “Our community has a great culture and a feel for the residents and it’s also enjoyable for staff to come to work here every day.”
Cogir of Stock Ranch staff work hard to attract new residents and keep longtime residents happy.
“Food and staff are the biggies as well as our very engaging level of activities,” Masters said.
The restaurant on the first floor, open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., is a popular gathering place for residents, their families and their guests.
“People love our food. The food is farm fresh. There is very little processed food here,” Masters proudly said. “We have a well-stacked salad bar throughout the day. Fresh fruit is always available.”

Phyllis Eymann, and her dog, Lassie, moved back to Cogir of Stock Ranch two years after leaving the area. Both were happy to be back in their Citrus Heights home.
As for staff, several staff members have worked at Cogir at Stock Ranch for more than two decades. The housekeeping manager has been there for 24 years and one of the cooks has been there for 23 years. At least five other care staff have been there more than 13 years.
Activities range from movie nights, painting, two happy hours with live music every week to excursions, such as Apple Hill, Seaquest and theaters. Some activities, such as chair yoga, have been recently added while other activities, such as entertainment by Dan the Piano Man, has been ongoing Saturdays for the last 13 years.
Every month, staff plans special parties combining food, games and music. In October, residents enjoyed a “Frankenstein does the Blues” Oktoberfest with a live band, bratwurst and beer. In September, residents and their families were treated to a National Grandparents Day carnival, complete with house-made fair food. This week will be a St. Patrick’s Day event in which live music and corn beef sliders will be featured.
What do residents say about Cogir of Stock Ranch?
Smiling residents last Friday at the Cogir living room, restaurant and hallways praised their senior living community, including Angie Ringland, who said, “People are very nice; the helpers are super nice. There’s not a thing wrong with the place.”
Two-year resident Sandy Smith, 92, complimented “the people and the activities.”

Executive director Ricky David, Jr. and community relations director Dale Masters are very appreciative of Cogir of Stock Ranch’s Best of Senior 2024 Allstar Award.
Smith appreciates great customer service, especially since she tries to make patients more comfortable when volunteering weekly at Mercy San Juan Medical Center’s front desk.
“I love the help here at Cogir; they’re the nicest,” Smith said. “We make friends, we hug. They’re the best.”
In the case of resident Phyllis Eymann, she’s proof that someone can return home.
Eymann moved to the Bay Area from Cogir of Stock Ranch to be closer to family but returned two years later to Cogir of Stock Ranch.
“I love it here. I don’t want to be anywhere else,” Eymann said as she and her little dog, Lassie, were socializing with a friend in the Cogir living room.
“When we were returning to Cogir, Lassie smelled we were near this place six blocks away and started wagging his tails and we were finally home at last,” Eymann said.
