Citrus Heights Hosts 3rd Annual Public Works Showcase

Children enjoyed climbing up into the operator's cab and getting behind the joystick controls of large front loader provided by Republic Services to taken in a "bucket-eye" view. The front loader is used by operators to move material as their waste management trucks are unloaded in their service yard.


CITRUS HEIGHTS, CA (MPG) - The City of Citrus Heights hosted its free third annual Public Works Showcase and Career/Education Fair the afternoon of May 16 at Van Maren Park, at Stock Ranch Road and Fountain Square Drive not far from City Hall.

The event showcased opportunities to learn about a wide range of career opportunities in public works and civil service.

Citrus Heights Public Works Department representatives described current openings while area private companies provided related services also discussed career, education, and employer options to job seekers.

The public was invited to check out heavy equipment up close and greet the operators who make them move as the city of Citrus Heights celebrated and observed National Public Works Week 2024.

Jobseekers could explore a wealth of opportunities to learn about current office and field careers, ranging in skillsets from administrative, engineering, operating big equipment and maintenance.

Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD) representatives offered information describing student internship and hourly opportunities with the utility now posted online. SMUD offers multiple career paths in its innovation and technology department ranging from a science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) student assistant to director positions.

Participating sponsors included Wells Sweeping LLC, Bear Specialty Electrical Contractors, Sacramento Area Sewer District, Republic Services, Unico Engineering Personnel from the City of Citrus Heights Public Works Department, Sacramento Employment and Training Agency (SETA), the San Juan Unified School District Office of Adult Education and the Center for Employment Opportunities were among those representing the regional trade industry, technical jobs and training opportunities in the area.
