CITRUS HEIGHTS, CA (MPG) – The fourth annual Hawaiian Luau Fundraiser returns to the Citrus Heights Veterans Community Center on Aug. 24.

The fundraiser will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Aug. 24 at the Citrus Heights Veterans Community Center, 6921 Sylvan Road.

Music by Native Sun will be accompanied by traditional Hawaiian dancing by Ka Pa Hula Kalama O Ha’aheo Dance Troupe.

A Hawaiian barbecue buffet with side dishes, dessert and special beverages will set the tone for the event.

As is the event’s custom, audience members will be invited to join in brief hula lessons.

Later that night, the tempo will pick up as a Tahitian dance element is added with heavy drumming and faster dancing.

A silent auction with fancy baskets and other gifts will make for early Christmas shopping.

Citrus Heights City Council members and other city employees will attend the event.

Citrus Heights City Manager Ash Feeney said of a pervious luau event: “It was great entertainment, great food, great people, great time, even greater cause. In addition to camaraderie, the Veterans Community Center helps connect veterans with important services and benefits that they are entitled to through their service.”

Hawaiian Luau Fundraiser tickets are between $50 and $75.

This luau is the main fundraiser for the year. All proceeds go to helping provide a free “Safe Room” for all military veterans who visit. The center is run entirely by volunteers and funded solely by donations and fundraisers. One- hundred percent of the proceeds support the mission to serve all military veterans through various resources, activities, and midday meals four times a week.

These events also preserve the memory and vision of co-owner Jim Rounsavell, who with his wife Jeanne founded the Citrus Heights Veterans Community Center in 2013.

Center hours are from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Mondays through Fridays.
