Jamie Jones, Skechers local district manager for the Citrus Heights store, referred all questions about the reasoning for the move to Skechers Southern California headquarters in Manhattan Beach.
Laura Diab Lindberg, Skechers executive director of public relations, confirmed news of the move in an email response. An opening date is likely in mid-November, she said. Corporate marketing personnel would provide additional details about an opening date later, Lindberg added.
Blue and white banner rooftop signage announces the new location as “coming soon.”
The former Walgreens 14,820-square-foot building at 6199 Sunrise Blvd. was built in 2007 and is located on a two-acre parcel directly across from Sunrise Mall. The store closed on Feb. 20.
Local Skechers store staff who were aware of the move said they were excited about moving to the new location, which will be approximately double the size of its Citrus Town Center location and will provide better parking for customers.
Building permits were filed with the city of Citrus Heights on June 24 and approved on Sept. 3, according to Marisa Brown, city of Citrus Heights communications officer. The city building department is waiting for approval from Metro Fire before issuing a construction permit, she said. According to the permit application documents, Touchstone Contractors of San Dimas is the architect/builder.
Citrus Town Center, originally known as Sunrise Festival Shopping Center, went through its second remodel in 2011. Sketchers occupies an anchor position in the center. Nearby retail stores include Half Price Books, Marshalls and Five Below.
A representative for Inter-Cal Real Estate Corporation of Sacramento, property owner/manager for the Citrus Town Center, did not respond to a request for comment concerning the planned relocation or what might fill the space when the premises are vacated by Skechers.
