CITRUS HEIGHTS, CA (MPG) - Heavy rain didn’t deter the generosity of many who donated to a recent “Badges with Buckets” fundraiser to benefit Special Olympics - Northern California.

More than $4,000 was raised at the Nov. 21 fundraiser held at Miller’s Ace Hardware, 8077 Madison Ave., Citrus Heights, according to owner Jessica Rowell-Greenfield.

“It’s not bad for our very first try,” Rowell-Greenfield said. “We’re thankful for all who braved the rain to support Special Olympics.”

She acknowledged law enforcement personnel from the city of Citrus Heights and the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office, who teamed up to support the event.

The event was moved to just outside the front doors of Miller’s Ace Hardware, due to heavy rains that moved through the greater Sacramento area.

Citrus Heights Police Chief Alex Turcotte, city staff and City Manager Ash Feeney were on hand to accept donations and to thank the public for their support of Special Olympics – Northern California.

Miller’s Ace Hardware, named after the owner’s son who is dealing with a rare neurological disease, is located in Citrus Heights across the street from the Fair Oaks Library, where the two communities meet.

Funds raised from the Badges with Buckets campaign will help Special Olympics of Northern California support the many sports, education and health programming offered to children and adults with physical and intellectual disabilities in their own communities.
