CITRUS HEIGHTS, CA (MPG) - April 28, 1973 was a calm, sunny day. It was a typically peaceful Saturday morning. At 8:03 a.m. all of that changed.

Twenty-one boxcars loaded with 7,000 bombs exploded while standing on a track in the Southern Pacific yard in Roseville, resulting in extensive property damage and injuries to 350 people. The cause of the explosions has never been determined.

Join the Citrus Heights Historical Society on Thursday, May 1 at 6 p.m. to relive what happened the weekend of April 28, 1973. The presentation will be held at Citrus Heights City Hall, located at 6360 Fountain Square Drive. Admission is free and light refreshments will be served.
