CITRUS HEIGHTS, CA (MPG) – The City of Citrus Heights is holding its third annual Stars and Stripes Celebration at Van Maren Park on June 28, featuring live music, food and a Kid Zone, starting at 6 p.m.

The annual event is hosted by the Sunrise Recreation and Parks District, and the Citrus Heights Police Activities League and ends with a patriotic fireworks show “for all to enjoy,” according to citrusheights.net.

Van Maren Park is at 6601 Thalia Way, Citrus Heights.

With temperatures expected to be in the 90s, event organizers recommend that participants wear light, breathable fabric, especially if it is red, white or blue, to show their Stars and Stripes spirit.

The event is free and all are welcome to attend with parking at a first-come, first-served basis. Some parking, labeled “Stars,” might be available near the Citrus Heights Police Department, 6315 Fountain Square Drive, with a shuttle service bringing attendees to the event.

The “Stripes” parking area will be near the Citrus Heights Surgery Center at the corner of Stock Ranch and Sylvan roads. ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) parking will be available at City Hall, 6360 Fountain Square Drive.

A bike valet service will also be available at City Hall, courtesy of the Sacramento Area Bicycle Advocates.

Eleven food vendors are expected to serve attendees and numerous local businesses surround the event’s location, making it easy to support local small businesses in Citrus Heights, according to the city’s website. Small coolers and ice chests are permitted into the celebration and should not exceed 48 quarts. Alcohol is not allowed at the event.

Guests are welcome to show up an hour early, at 5 p.m. to secure their spot on the lawn for the fireworks show, which is scheduled to start at 9:45 p.m. However, features such as the Kid Zone and food trucks will not be available until 6 p.m.

Small umbrellas are permitted but canopies, large or small, are not permitted by any means. The city reminds guests to be courteous when setting up their umbrellas. Dogs are allowed at the event but owners are reminded that the fireworks show will last approximately 15 minutes and to leave their pup home if loud noises and crowds upset them.

Mercy and the Heartbeats will play music from 7 p.m. until 9:30 p.m. June 28. The Kid Zone will be open until 8:30 p.m.

There will be multiple road closures at Fountain Square and Woodside drives, as well as Stock Ranch Road, leading up to Van Maren Park.
