New EVgo Vehicle Charging Station Opens at Sunrise Mall

CITRUS HEIGHTS, CA (MPG) - A new EVgo electric vehicle charging station has opened near the corner of Sunrise Boulevard and Macy’s Plaza in the Sunrise Mall parking lot on a portion of the property which is owned by Ethan Conrad Properties of Sacramento.
The station’s public opening earlier this month was decidedly low key, with neither officials of the city of Citrus Heights, nor the Citrus Heights Chamber of Commerce marking the occasion with any special event or a formal ribbon cutting ceremony, according to city and Chamber representatives who were asked for comment.
The Citrus Heights Community Development Department issued a building permit on March 21 for the project and construction began soon after. The EV charging station was first indicated on the updated site map of property owner Ethan Conrad Properties’ former informal proposal requesting an amendment to the Sunrise Tomorrow Specific Plan which was rejected earlier this spring.
Recent completion of the new EVgo charging station on the Sunrise Mall property is the first significant piece of new infrastructure which has been completed on the 100+acre site, according to Marisa Brown, city communications officer.
This is the second facility which EVgo, a Los Angeles based national provider of public fast-charging infrastructure for electric vehicles (EVs), has opened in Citrus Heights.
Another EVgo station has been in operation in the Raley’s Shopping Center at 7847 Lichen Drive, near I-80. Two other EVgo facilities have opened in Folsom and in downtown Sacramento.

The area of the parking lot where the new facility is located has been freshly resealed and individual stalls are clearly marked.

Operating instructions for each charger are easy to follow and allow for quick plug-in.
A simultaneous charger works by allowing two EVs to share a charger’s power between two connectors on the same charging dispenser.
When one connector on a simultaneous charger is in use, the EV has access to the full power of the charger. When both connectors are in use by two customers, the two EVs share the full power of the charger.
Pricing for EVgo DC fast charging is determined by charger location, the customer’s individual plan and the maximum power level the owner’s vehicle can accept. Real-time pricing based on the time of charge is available on a downloadable app, or at each individual charger site, according to the company.
Customers can register with EVgo and use a cell phone application to find a location and choose a preferred payment plan.

EVgo operates a network of 1,100+ fast charging locations across over 40 states already provides 153+ million Americans with convenient access to public charging, according to the company and is looking to triple its nationwide footprint over the next five years.
About a quarter of all new cars registered in California in 2023 and in 2024 were electric cars, according to a recent article from CalMatters. However, flat sales followed several years of rapid growth, and sales are still far below the state’s 35 percent target.
