CITRUS HEIGHTS, CA (MPG) - The Bargain Super Market, a new, family-owned, independent convenience grocery store near the corner of Birdcage Street and Greenback Lane, opened at 7817 Greenback Lane in Citrus Heights.

Owner Bobby Singh and fellow family members celebrated the store’s official grand opening with a ribbon cutting ceremony sponsored by the Citrus Heights Chamber of Commerce on Sept. 17. The store opened to the public a month ago.

Citrus Heights Mayor Dr. Jayne Karpinski-Costa congratulated Singh on becoming part of the city’s growing business community, wishing he and his family well and offering the city’s assistance to any issues, including public safety that he might face.

Kathilynn Carpenter, executive director of Sunrise Market Place, also attended the ribbon cutting ceremony, along with individual representatives of state and Sacramento County elected officials who presented commemorative citations to Singh.

Bargain Super Market sells a variety of convenient items, including grocery items, beer, liquor, wine, spirits, ice cream, candy, snacks and more popular grocery items.

The interior of the 4,300 square-foot building, which was built in 1997, previously held a mattress discount store affiliated with Mattress Firm and was given a refresh with wood parquet-style floors, refrigerated display cases and wide, spacious aisles for ease and shopping convenience.

“This location proved to be ideal for us within Sunrise Market Place,” Singh said. “It’s perfect for customers who may be just looking to purchase a few quickly needed, reasonably priced grocery items and then get on their way.”

Two full-service grocers, Sprout’s Farmers Market and a Walmart store, are located near the busy corner of Greenback Lane and Sunrise Boulevard within Sunrise Market Place.

The city is also home to three 7-Eleven chain convenience stores in the general area, including one near the corner of San Juan Ave and Greenback Lane.

Singh said the opportunity to operate as an independent market, unlike a chain store, allows him to choose his own inventory and better get to know the needs of his customers, creating a stronger connection with the community he now serves.

Two popular restaurants, Tres Hermanos Taqueria and Pho ABC, a Vietnamese and Chinese restaurant, are located nearby. The shopping center is also home to Harbor Freight Tools, Big 5 Sporting Goods, Mattress Firm, Aspen Dental and Firestone Auto Care.

The Bargain Super Market at 7817 Greenback Lane in Citrus Heights is open from 6 a.m. to 11:45 p.m. Mondays through Sundays. Call 916-916-9723 for more information.
