SACRAMENTO REGION, CA (MPG) –
October is flying by but don’t worry. There’s still time to experience all the spooky activities that the greater Sacramento region has to offer. The region offers an abundance of Halloween-themed activities, including free- or low-cost and family-friendly events.

There is something for everyone this season, from those looking to get spooked in historic mansions to those who prefer a daytime stroll through Midtown to those craving a cozy night under the stars.

Old Sacramento has transformed into Sacramento’s Halloween Town this month. On Thursday and Friday evenings this month, Old Sacramento is screening Halloween movies under the stars. Come out on Oct. 23 to see “Monsters, Inc.,” Oct. 24 to see “Ghostbusters,” Oct. 30 to see “Beetlejuice” and Oct. 3 to see “The Sixth Sense.” General seating is $10 with lawn seating and headphones provided; bringing a chair or blanket is recommended. Preferred and luxury seating is available at a higher cost.

Old Sacramento’s Plenty O’ Pumpkins Patch is open from noon to 6 p.m. weekends through October. Paint a jack o’lantern every Thursday in October. Proceeds go to the Children’s Receiving Home of Sacramento. Photo courtesy of Downtown Sacramento Partnership

During the daytime, check out Old Sacramento’s Plenty O’ Pumpkin’s Patch, hayrides and harvest specials at local restaurants, retail stores and bars. Visit downtownsac.org/downtown-sac-experiences/sacramentos-halloween-town/ for more information.

Take a spooky train ride through Old Sacramento at the California State Railroad Museum. This delightful ride is family-friendly and features a special theme each week, including “Witches & Wizards” on Oct. 23 and 24 and “Superheroes and Villains” on Oct. 30 and 31. Visit www.oldsacramento.com/event/spookomotive-train-ride for more information and to purchase tickets.

For an alternative outdoor movie option, McKinley Park is hosting a free Movie in the Park from 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 24 for all ages. Costumes are encouraged.

Next, enjoy a day in Midtown on Oct. 25 for Midtown Sutter and Midtown Association’s Halloween Festival and Pooch Parade, featuring family-friendly outdoor activities, including a mini pumpkin patch, free pumpkin painting, professional pet photographer and the always-entertaining costume contest for furry friends. Enjoy delicious bites from Midtown Sutter favorites Barwest and Lock & Key.

St., Sacramento, from Oct. 24 to Nov. 1. Explore frightfully decorated rooms with dark tales of history and mystery. Costumes are encouraged.
