CITRUS HEIGHTS, CA (MPG) - The Rotary Club of Citrus Heights kicked off the holiday season last Saturday by hosting its first-ever craft fair in the Copperwood Square Shopping Center on Sunrise Boulevard in the shared parking lot between the R Vida Cantina Mexican Restaurant and the recently opened United Martial Arts Academy.
Beautiful Saturday morning weather attracted many attendees who stopped by the craft fair after breakfast at nearby Country Waffles, or an early workout at the Planet Fitness gym.
Shoppers who took time to check out some 21 different vendors were invited to play a special game of Bingo, obtaining five signatures on their card to win a raffle prize of a free appetizer which was provided by the Texas Roadhouse Restaurant.

The inaugural holiday craft fair was the creative idea of Rotary Club treasurer Susan Powers, owner of Powers Bookkeeping Services in Citrus Heights, a dedicated crafter and regular vendor at area craft fairs.
Powers reached out to fellow Rotary members with her idea for a craft fair and the event quickly came together.
Jack Duncan, on behalf of son and daughter-in law Mark and Marie Duncan, who own Runs with Scissors, a Citrus Heights quilting shop, showcased brightly colored examples of handmade quilts and answered questions for those interested in the hobby.
Other exhibitors showcased handcrafted leather goods, windchimes, crystal suncatchers and miniature toy figurines which attracted the curiosity of little ones who attended with their parents.
At Powers’ booth, she fielded questions about her professional bookkeeping services, while describing how she uses a laser cutter to make and then hand paint a variety of colorful earrings on display. She also makes decorative pens, car coasters, charms and dog bandanas.

“It’s my creative escape,” Powers said.
Powers Bookkeeping Services was recognized by the Citrus Heights Chamber of Commerce with a “Best of Citrus Heights” award in 2024 and 2025.
Also at the event, students and instructors of the United Martial Arts Academy demonstrated their board splitting abilities throughout the morning at $5 a board with the proceeds going to support local rotary programs.
The spooky spirits of Halloween from the evening before, Oct. 31, persisted for an additional day as students and instructors from the United Martial Arts Academy hosted a free community “Trunk or Treat” event on Saturday evening from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. which featured a costume contest, best decorated vehicle “trunk,” games and bounce houses for plenty of family fun.
Funds raised from the recent craft fair will be used to help purchase prizes for the annual Citrus Heights Crab Feed coming up later this year, said Powers.
