CITRUS HEIGHTS, CA (MPG) – Customers of the popular party and balloon supplier Party City which closed last spring in Citrus Town can now shop the brand at Staples, a national retail office supply to open a “store within a store” concept in Citrus Heights.

The new Party City section inside Staples at 6330 Sunrise Blvd., just to the left of the store’s main entrance features several aisles full of party supplies including balloons and tableware.

Staples store management just recently completed a physical reconfiguration of the store’s sales floor to make room for new shelf displays and an initial selection of Party City merchandise.

Additional inventory may include décor, costumes and other essentials for birthdays, holidays and other celebrations, based on customer response, according to Staples retail staff.

Sales associates said recent Party City customers who discovered the recent change at the Citrus Heights Staples store this past week, were delighted to see Party City return, even in a smaller retail footprint.

After nearly 40 years in business, Party City, a major national party retailer, underwent a sweeping downsizing effort last year with hundreds of locations shuttered as part of a restructuring plan.

Party planners, parents and holiday lovers were uncertain if any physical locations would eventually remain or return. At one time, the company once had over 700 company-owned and franchise store locations across North America.

Party City was acquired last year for $20 million in a federal bankruptcy action by New Amscan, an affiliate of Ad Populum, a global producer and distributor of pop culture merchandise and costuming supplies.

The US retailer is now opening smaller “store within a store” sections inside select Staples locations throughout the United States.

A new Party City sales section is now open inside Staples at 6330 Sunrise Blvd. in Citrus Heights.

The new parent company, Party City Holdco Inc. is also expanding into e-commerce space. The company recently announced an e-commerce fulfillment relationship with Staples Inc.

As per the agreement, Staples will list Party City’s products on its websites, according to the company.

The “store within a store” concept isn’t new.

Popular toy retailer Toys R Us stores returned to some Macy’s stores in select markets, including Sunrise Mall in Citrus Heights for a time, before Macy’s closed last year.
