SACRAMENTO, CA (MPG) – Construction on the $511.1 million U.S. Highway 50 (US 50) Multimodal Corridor Enhancement “Fix50” Project continues with the installation of an overhead sign tonight across westbound US 50.

The contractor will install full-span overhead sign and additional signage along the highway. For the safety of the traveling public and due to the nature of the heavy equipment needed to complete some of the work, crews will perform traffic breaks during the work and close the northbound State Route 99 (SR 99) to westbound US 50 connector. 

Work Schedule:

Tonight from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. on westbound US 50 between 26th Street and 15th Street. Overhead sign will be installed between 18th Street and 19th Street.

From 1 a.m. to 4 a.m. full closure on westbound US 50 at 26th Street.

Motorists can use W Street as an alternate route.

Caltrans reminds drivers to use alternate routes, expect delays, stay alert when traveling through work zones and pay close attention to advance warning signs. Motorists are also encouraged to plan and allow extra travel time.

The ongoing work is part of a project to rehabilitate pavement and add 14 lane miles of high-occupancy lanes from the US 50/Interstate 5 interchange to the US 50/Watt Avenue interchange.

The work zone speed limit has been reduced to 55 mph and the California Highway Patrol will be present for traffic enforcement. For more information visit the U.S. Highway 50 Multimodal Corridor Enhancement and Rehabilitation Project on the Caltrans District 3 website. 

Work is scheduled to begin as listed but subject to change due to traffic incidents, availability of equipment and/or materials, or other construction-related issues.

Caltrans District 3 is responsible for maintaining and operating 4,385 lane miles in 11 Sacramento Valley and Northern Sierra counties. Caltrans reminds motorists to “Be Work Zone Alert” and slow in construction zones for the safety of travelers and crews performing these improvements.
