CITRUS HEIGHTS, CA (MPG) – Girl Scout cookie sales started on Friday, Feb. 20 in celebration of National Girl Scout Cookie Weekend with many customers in Citrus Heights craving to try a pink box of trademarked Exploremores, a Rocky Road ice cream-inspired flavor, making its debut this year.

The increased price per box from $6 to $7 didn’t deter early shoppers outside the Walmart grocery store on Sunrise Boulevard, eager to buy a selection of their favorites, including Thin Mints, Caramel deLites, Peanut Butter Patties and other classic varieties.

Moms stood with watchful eyes over stacked cartons of cookies behind the sales table, as eager Girl Scouts engaged with their customers, suggested flavors to try and closed their sales.

The girls are members of the Girl Scout Heart of California council of Sacramento. All said they were optimistic that overall sales will be good this year and thousands of boxes will be sold.

Over 10,000 Girl Scouts and volunteers participated in the 2025 cookie program. Some 2.9 million boxes of cookies were sold, according to Girl Scouts of the USA (GSUSA).

Each cookie box purchase supports Girl Scouts who make the world a better place, "one box of cookies at a time.”

Through the annual Girl Scout Cookie Program, participants develop skills in goal setting, decision-making, money management, people skills and business ethics.

New to the 2026 lineup is Exploremores, a rocky road ice cream-inspired sandwich cookie featuring chocolate, marshmallow and toasted almond-flavored crème.

My sweet tooth couldn’t resist a box of Exploremores to accompany the two boxes of Thin Mints I’d been planning to buy since sales were announced.

These rocky road ice cream-inspired sandwich cookies, filled with the yummy flavor of chocolate, marshmallow and toasted almond-flavored crème, reflect the spirit of exploration at the heart of every Girl Scout according to the Girl Scouts of the USA. The rich, chocolatey taste is just as advertised, and I’ll be eagerly looking to buy another box before it sells out.

Only registered Girl Scouts can sell Girl Scout Cookies, and their market availability is generally between January and April when Girl Scouts nationally participate in the program through their local council.

The listing of weekday and weekend cookie sales, hours of sale and booth locations in Citrus Heights are updated frequently during this Girl Scout cookie sales season.
