CITRUS HEIGHTS, CA (MPG) – Construction converting a shuttered former Rally’s Burger drive-thru at 7911 Auburn Blvd. in Citrus Heights into a new Dutch Bros coffee shop is nearing completion.
The drive-thru is listed as “coming soon” on social media, and an employee recruitment banner to join the Dutch Bros team is placed near the main beverage pick-up window.
The new Citrus Heights Dutch Bros drive-thru at the corner of Twin Oaks Drive and Auburn Boulevard is the first of three which are scheduled to open this year, according to Steve Grubbs, of Grubbs Investment LLC in Roseville, who is the local Dutch Bros operator in the area.
Two other new Dutch Bros drive-thru will open in Orangevale and Fair Oaks.
In the recent remodel, the building was repainted in gray and dark blue to align with the Dutch Bros corporate color scheme. The front façade of the former Rally’s which features a boomerang-style roof faces Auburn Boulevard.
Customers will enter and exit the new Dutch Bros quick serve drive-thru from Grand Oaks Boulevard before returning to Auburn Boulevard, which is controlled by a traffic signal.
Construction started in late December and a 60-90-day timeline for completion was originally projected, according to Grubbs.

Landscaping beds surrounding the drive-thru have received a refresh with decorative bark and fresh gravel added.
New curbing separates the Dutch Bros drive-thru from the main parking lot of Steve Cook’s Fireside Lanes, a bowling center located nearby.
The parking lot was also painted to wayfinding and directional elements to accommodate the Dutch Bros double drive-thru stack.
Additional traffic improvements to Auburn Boulevard are under construction by the city of Citrus Heights in its Phase 2 of the Auburn Boulevard Complete Streets Project which will place all public utilities underground, building new pedestrian sidewalks, and installing new traffic lights and signals.
A recent walk around the construction project showed final electrical work, including primary menu signage in key positions surrounding the 827-square foot drive-thru still to be installed.
Once open, the new Auburn Boulevard Dutch Bros will hold a total of 22 cars in the waiting queue without impeding traffic exiting from the drive-thru or stacking onto nearby Twin Oaks Drive, Grubbs said in a prior interview.
Two additional Dutch Bros locations are coming soon to Orangevale and Fair Oaks, Grubbs said.
A new Orangevale Dutch Bros quick-serve coffee shop is under construction near where a Quick Quack Car Wash is under construction, directly across from the Walmart store. The Orangevale Chamber of Commerce building is located diagonally across the street.
Another new Fair Oaks Dutch Bros on Winding Way is planned to replace a former Scooters coffee kiosk at 7904 Winding Way, just off Sunrise Boulevard, where retail plaza anchor, Stardust Village Emporium opened in early January.
Grubbs operates Dutch Bros locations at 7445 Madison Ave. in Citrus Heights and at 7853 Lichen Drive in the Raley’s-anchored Summer Hills Plaza near Interstate 80 and Antelope Road.
