CITRUS HEIGHTS, CA (MPG) – The Sunrise MarketPlace (SMP) launches its first of three “Backyard Bash” free concert events at the MarketPlace at Birdcage on Friday, April 3, and reminds the public to do its part to help ensure the series provides a safe and enjoyable environment for all.
The “Backyard Bash” series will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. on three Friday nights, on a main stage directly behind Jamba Juice at 6061 Sunrise Blvd and will include concerts by the group Aces on April 3, Department of Rock on April 17 and Hack Attack on May 1.
The stage has been used to host other community events in the MarketPlace at Birdcage including Bubble Bash where foam cannons filled the area with frothy bubbles.
Along with live music, event guests will enjoy food trucks, adult backyard games such as Cornhole and Giant Jenga, and a beer and wine garden which will be hosted by the Citrus Heights Rotary Club.
“Each concert event will be limited to a three-hour window, concluding promptly at 9 p.m.,” said SMP representative Lisa Cordell, responding on behalf of Executive Director Kathilynn Carpenter, who was asked to provide additional safety and security details to potential event attendees.
A preliminary estimate of crowd size was not available. Limited on-site seating will be available at the event. Attendees are generally encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets and take advantage of the grassy berm areas to relax and enjoy the show in a comfortable, picnic-style setting.
No significant long-term noise impacts to surrounding residents are likely beyond event hours, Cordell said.
Due to the popularity of the event, parking within the immediate shopping center, especially near the medical office buildings, will be limited and heavily impacted during event hours, she said.
Attendees are encouraged to walk if they live nearby, carpool when possible and arrive early for the best parking options. Event guests should be prepared to park further away and walk into the event. Additional parking is available at the Sunrise Mall, where guests may park and walk across Sunrise Boulevard to access the venue.
“The Citrus Heights Police Department has also been notified of the event, and professional private security will also be onsite throughout each concert to ensure a safe and enjoyable environment for all,” Cordell said.
The event is designed to be welcoming for all ages, making it an ideal evening outing for families, friends and neighbors looking to enjoy spring evenings together, according to SMP.
The recent announcement of “Backyard Bash” comes following the cancelation of last year’s Brews in the ‘Burbs event that had been taking place annually since 2019.
Carpenter said the SMP business district strives to bring fun, free events to the district to bring awareness to shops and businesses, and that event expenses are offset by sponsorship funding.
Republic Services and State Assembly Member Josh Hoover are listed as sponsors for the event.
According to SMP, the concert series “seeks to reinforce Sunrise MarketPlace as a central gathering place for the Citrus Heights community. By featuring local bands, regional food vendors, and interactive experiences, the events celebrate the unique character and energy of the city of Citrus Heights while creating opportunities for residents to connect.”
Sunrise MarketPlace (SMP) encompasses a collection of over 400 stores, restaurants and services in the Sunrise/Greenback business corridor.
