CITRUS HEIGHTS, CA (MPG) – Remodeling work has started on the interior of the Walmart Neighborhood Market grocery store at 6197 Sunrise Blvd. in the MarketPlace in Birdcage with completion scheduled for early this summer, according to local store management.

The Walmart Neighborhood Market in Birdcage was once a Long’s Drug Store and opened in January 2014. The interior refresh after 12 years will offer the 39,000 square foot grocery store a more contemporary look and feel, according to store staff. The store is located between Lowe’s and a Barnes and Noble bookstore.

Neighborhood Markets were launched by Walmart in 1998 as a smaller alternative to their supercenters, typically being about a third the size and focusing on grocery, pharmacy and pet supplies. A Walmart Super Center is located at 7010 Auburn Blvd. in Stock Ranch in Citrus Heights.

Much of the initial construction work is being performed at night with the interior walls of the store already repainted from yellow to white.

According to local store management, customers shouldn’t be inconvenienced by the ongoing renovations as they shop. No changes to daily business operations or online grocery ordering is planned, said store staff.

A fenced-off portion of the main parking lot in front of the retail grocery store is set aside by the general contractor for its equipment trailers. Blue banner signage placed by Walmart announces a new look which is coming soon.

The renovation project is being performed by the Northern California office of Tri State General Contractors, based in Shingle Springs, CA. Incorporated in 2008, Tri State General Contractors specializes in retail and commercial construction.

In all, Walmart stores across the country are slated for remodels as the retail giant has announced plans to refresh more than 650 stores this year.

According to a recent Walmart press release, this calendar year will bring “new and bolder signage, new displays, expanded department and expanded online pickup and delivery areas” to this Citrus Heights grocery store and others across the nation.

The Citrus Heights Walmart pharmacy will also get a rebrand to have wider aisles, private checkout areas and private screening rooms, according to the retailer.

Additionally, Walmart states the remodels will focus on “sustainability, including more energy-efficient equipment, lighting and lower impact refrigerants.”

When the remodeled Citrus Heights Walmart Neighborhood Market is completed, customers will walk into “a brighter, more inviting space better designed around how they shop today”, according to the company.

While some renovation updates vary by location to meet the specific needs of the community, Walmart announced that most stores will feature expanded aisles and reconfigured layouts that create more space and make it easier to navigate.
