CITRUS HEIGHTS, CA (MPG) - Citrus Heights Water District (CHWD) Board of Directors voted on May 18 to approve no water rate increase for the remainder of 2026 and all of 2027, a move that keeps its water rates below the regional average for more than 10 consecutive years.

The Board’s action reflects the district’s continued focus on balancing reliable water service, ongoing infrastructure needs and responsible financial planning on behalf of customers.

“CHWD remains committed to providing reliable service while carefully managing costs for our customers,” said Caryl F. Sheehan, Citrus Heights Water District board president. “The Board determined that no rate increase for the remainder of 2026 and all of 2027 is appropriate after reviewing the district’s financial position, operational needs and customer affordability.”

Citrus Heights Water District continues to maintain and invest in critical water infrastructure throughout the community, including system maintenance, replacement projects and long-term planning initiatives designed to support future reliability and operational stability.

District officials noted that the decision was made as part of Citrus Heights Water District’s regular budget and financial planning process, which includes ongoing evaluation of operational costs, infrastructure priorities, water system needs and broader regional water issues. The board also recognized the importance of minimizing additional financial impacts on local households whenever possible while continuing to maintain reliable service.

Citrus Heights Water District will continue monitoring these factors as part of its long-term planning efforts while remaining focused on maintaining reliable service and responsible stewardship of public resources.

Established in 1920, CHWD is an independent, not-for-profit public agency that provides safe and reliable drinking water to customers in Citrus Heights, Fair Oaks, Orangevale, Carmichael, and Roseville. CHWD’s water supply is rooted in pre-1914 rights to surface water from the North Fork of the American River. In 1951, CHWD and other area retail agencies formed the San Juan Water District specifically to acquire the pre1914 surface water rights of the North Fork Ditch Company on behalf of CHWD and other retail agencies, and serve as their wholesale water supplier. CHWD operates more than 250 miles of water pipes and maintains a system of wells and pumping facilities that deliver high-quality water meeting or exceeding all state and federal drinking-water standards.
