CITRUS HEIGHTS, CA (MPG) - The Citrus Heights Little League 8-10 All Stars won the District 5 Championship on Tuesday, June 30, defeating College Glen Little League in the championship game at Glenbrook Park. It was the first Championship banner won for Citrus Heights since 2001.

The win was the culmination of a stellar run of success for Manager Cory Techau. He led the CHLL Minors Twins to an undefeated regular season and continued that run through the District 5 Tournament of Champions (TOCs). The CHLL Twins won the District 5 Minors TOC banner on June 6, beating the College Glen LL Yankees 11-1. 

With the TOC banner already in hand, Coach Cory then led the CHLL 8-10 All Stars on another undefeated run, beating Rancho Cordova LL 14-4, Sunrise LL 6-2, Arden LL 9-2, and finally College Glen LL 4-1 to claim another banner.

Citrus Heights LL is one of the smaller leagues in District 5. Championship banners are commonly won by leagues with much higher enrollment numbers. All-Star teams chosen from a larger pool of players typically have more success in tournament play. What CHLL might currently lack in numbers, they more than make up for in heart and grit.

The CHLL 8-10 All Stars will carry the heart of the community with them as they continue their amazing run into the California Section 4 tournament at Ponderosa LL in Cameron Park. Their first game will be on July 16 at 5:30 pm against the winner from District 7.
