Citrus Heights police officers enjoyed a refreshing shift last Wednesday evening, handing out ice cream treats in the Sylvan Middle School commons area to celebrate the city’s last annual City Scoop ice cream social.

CITRUS HEIGHTS, CA (MPG) - Citrus Heights police officers enjoyed a refreshing shift last Wednesday, July 15, handing out ice cream treats in the Sylvan Middle School commons area to celebrate the city’s last annual City Scoop ice cream social.

The choice of a chocolate and nut topped Drumstick ice cream cone, a cup of Luigi Italian Ice or a no-sugar Outshine pop lured many to a take a welcome break from the week’s 100 degree summer heat.

The city showcased a new colorful canopy this year over its informational booth which featured City Scoop logo with the letters “Cool Treats for Your Street” in pink and white on the front.

Parking was at a premium in the school parking lot, almost as full as when school is in session.

Citrus Heights Mayor MariJane Lopez-Taff and other city officials attending mingled among the attendees to hear their concerns and share what’s happening in the city.

The city also showcased a new colorful canopy this year over its informational booth which featured City Scoop logo with the letters “Cool Treats for Your Street” in pink and white on the front.

Each City Scoop event takes place from 6:30 to 8 p.m. and features backyard style games, and free ice cream for all attendees.

In 2023, the inaugural City Scoop summer series featured three ice cream socials throughout the summer at various locations in Citrus Heights including Greenback Greenspace, Sylvan Community Center and Westwood Park.

City Scoop events have since been held across the city in multiple locations, each designed to encourage neighbors and community leaders to meet and connect with one another.

Each City Scoop event takes place from 6:30 to 8 p.m. and features backyard style games, and free ice cream for all attendees.

This year the city reduced the number of its annual City Scoop ice cream social community gatherings from three to two. Tempo Park on Fair Oaks Boulevard was the previous scene for an earlier City Scoop event on June 17.
