CITRUS HEIGHTS, CA (MPG) - The Walmart grocery store in the MarketPlace at Birdcage will celebrate the completion of a four-month interior remodeling project and rebranding on Friday, July 31 with an early morning ceremony, showing off a fresh new look, both inside and out.

Details of the ceremony were being finalized at press time.

Improvements began in March to the 39,000-square-foot grocery store largely during overnight hours. The store is located between Lowe’s and a Barnes and Noble bookstore.

The former Walmart Neighborhood Market in Birdcage at 6197 Sunrise Blvd. in the MarketPlace in Birdcage was once a Long’s Drug Store and opened in January 2014.

Neighborhood Markets were first launched by Walmart in 1998 as a smaller alternative to their supercenters, typically being about a third the size and focusing on grocery, pharmacy and pet supplies.

Individually numbered pick-up parking spaces have been created in the parking lot outside on one side of the store across from the Patelco Federal credit union, and behind the grocery facing Home Goods where blue-vested Walmart store clerks now bring your pre-placed grocery order conveniently to you.

Grocery shoppers, during regular store hours, noticed some temporary relocation of some familiar store aisles while fixtures and refrigerated cases were replaced.

This recent remodel also allows Walmart to focus on “sustainability, including more energy-efficient equipment, lighting and lower impact refrigerants.”

Inside the store, a bank of new updated blue customer service registers and self-service stations have been installed. The pharmacy area now features wider aisles, private checkout areas and private screening rooms, according to the retailer.

Above each department and store section, bold blue and white department signs and new graphics better grasp shoppers’ attention. Updated aisle signage also improves shopper’s visibility. The customer service counter, pharmacy and restrooms were also fully renovated.

The interior refresh also creates a “more contemporary look and feel,” according to store staff who said they look forward to their store’s re-opening celebration ceremony.

In all, Walmart stores across the country have been slated for remodels as the retail giant has announced plans to refresh more than 650 stores this year. 

The renovation project was performed by the Northern California office of Tri State General Contractors, based in Shingle Springs, CA. Incorporated in 2008, Tri State General Contractors specializes in retail and commercial construction.
