CITRUS HEIGHTS, CA (MPG) - Coffee drinkers looking try out the Station Coffee Roasters Café, a new independent café located in a historic business district in Citrus Heights may not have much longer to wait for an opening day.

Exterior and interior construction of the new Station Coffee Roasters Café located at 7753 Mariposa Ave., across from Hall’s Furniture, are generally finished. So too is a new paved parking lot, completed this summer and a new neon sign above the front entrance.

The original building was built in 1951 and is situated in what was once one of Citrus Heights’ first commercial districts, along with Hall’s Furniture and other nearby shops.

In the 1950s, the commercial shopping area on Mariposa Avenue near Antelope Road in the rural community of Sylvan was a popular shopping destination where residents could get gas, drop off mail, and shop for clothes, furniture and more.

A small, two-story post office also opened in 1947 in a back area next to Hall’s, run by the postmaster who also owned Wood’s Variety store in the same shopping center.

Gutted and rebuilt from a former sports bar configuration with large new windows and white paint, the refreshed space will house both the café and the small batch coffee roastery, with plans to let guests view the roasting process through a glass partition.

In early July, the co-owners posted a Facebook video offering a view inside the café where a curved front counter coffee bar and surrounding seating area is largely ready for customers.

Although the Station Coffee Roasters Café has been in the works for years, according to co-owners Edward Andrusyak and Valentin Krechunyak, the journey towards an eventual opening date hasn’t been smooth.

The owners who have an active telephone number and email contact listed, did not respond to repeated requests for comment regarding a likely opening date.

Plans for a permanent Station Coffee Roasters Café in Citrus Heights were officially announced in a video post on the company’s Instagram account in April 2024, with the owners then stating in part, “It’s been a long time coming, but we’re on track, and we can’t wait to serve you!”

For now, Station Coffee Roasters operates online at stationcoffeeroasters.com and at local vendor fairs, offering small-batch beans and branded merchandise.

A general menu at Station Coffee Roasters described on the café’s website will feature classics like lattes, cappuccinos and flat whites, plus a few signature drinks that are currently in development. Light bites and pastries will also be available.

Brand varieties available through its website include: “Middle of the Road” (chocolate butterscotch and cherry), “Hot Wire” (chocolate, strudel and walnut), “Traffic Jam” (dark chocolate, Bing cherry and almond), “Slug Bug” (honey, apricot and pecan), “Alternative Fuel Decaf” (fig newton, peanut butter and citrus peel), “High Mileage” (chocolate and Rainer cherry), “Tropic Drift” (caramel, berries and hazelnut) and “The Italian Job” (tiramisu and roasted nuts).

Station Coffee Roasters Café also sells bulk bags of freshly roasted coffee beans, including Brazilian, Colombian and Nicaraguan and offers its customers a coffee bean subscription program.
