Synopsis:
In 1859, Martha, a widow with few rights, flees to New York City with her children to escape a predator. Almost destitute, she seeks help from The Home for the Friendless, which provides food, clothing, and schooling for street kids. However, Martha soon discovers the society has sent her two eldest children to work via the Orphan Train and placed her youngest two up for adoption. Determined to reclaim her children, Martha embarks on a journey to bring them back amidst the chaos of the Civil War. This historical fiction, inspired by the author's research into her grandfather's adoption, explores the harsh realities of the Orphan Train system.
